Gerry Weber is one of the most well-known German fashion brands. The designer fashions impress customers all over the world and are very popular on an international level. The style is best-described as exciting, modern and irresistibly feminine. Here's what CEO Gerhard Weber says about his company: “We know our customers wishes and take them seriously. Our female customers should feel comfortable wearing our fashions. That is our goal.”
Gerhard Weber, a qualified draper, started up the company Hatex AG with the clothing engineer Udo Hardieck in 1973. To start off with, the company focused solely on manufacturing ladies' trousers. At a later date, they extended their range to all areas of women's fashion. In 1986 they changed their name to the new brand name “Gerry Weber”, named after its founder. Gerry Weber quickly became an internationally-known name by sponsoring the tennis legend Steffi Graf. In the following years the company became a large, internationally prestigious company. In 1989 Gerry Weber went public and changed its name once more to Gerry Weber International AG. Further fashion ranges were added to the classic and feminine main range Gerry Weber Edition, starting with the romantic, playful “Taifun” range, followed by “Samoon by Gerry Weber” in 1994, a plus-size-only range. Since 2006 Rainer Lutzmann has been the company's new head designer. His creative nature is a valuable addition to the company and he remains loyal to Gerry Weber's style: fancy fashions for fashion-conscious women of 30 and upwards. The concept blossoms and the new Gerry Weber and Taifun collections receive best marks from the industry.
The Gerry Weber Open Fashion Show celebrated its 20th anniversary. Many guests, including actors, athletes and celebrities attended the well-known show in Halle in Westphalia. The show is a social highlight of Halle's annual tennis tournament. Gerry Weber has been closely connected to the sports scene from the very beginning, tennis in particular. By sponsoring Steffi Graf, Gerry Weber became increasingly popular on the tennis scene and recognised as a good sponsor. This led to the company's gradual construction of its “Gerry Weber World”, where the brand, sports and experience become one. Apart from the “Gerry Weber Stadium” where the Gerry Weber Open tennis tournament is held, the international company has also built a multi-function sports park in Halle which offers tennis, squash and badminton. There is therefore a large range of opportunities to get and keep fit and active.
Sustainability and social responsibility play a central role in the company's way of thinking and its activities. Gerry Weber ensures that production complies with the agreed social and environmental standards. Consideration for the environment plays an important role elsewhere too. On this note, the company tries to upgrade itself in a sustainable manner, reduce its CO2 emissions and use more natural geothermal energy. A large company like Gerry Weber International AG knows just how important its social responsibility is. It supports various social organisations, runs fund-raising campaigns and sponsors sports.
